My dad and I used to read the Little House on the Prairie books when I was little. Every night! Except my mom would read the Lord of the Rings trilogy with my siblings at the same time, so I was jealous. I think we stopped reading together once Laura met Almonzo, or whatever, and I read the next one on my own (secretly so my Dad wouldn't get mad) and then felt bad so I stopped.
And before that we would all read this book about bears together as a family. There were four bears, I think. We also read Dr. Suess and my Dad used to chase me around with the cat-in-the-hat doll because I was afraid of it.
I read Julie of the Wolves in third grade. I really liked it, except for the ending when she comes back into society. Then I read Star Girl in 5th grade. SO BAD.
Middle school I read fantasy books. They were really long so I felt cool. They were also really sexually explicit, which is sort of creepy considering the age group that they are intended for...Some how I managed to get out of that, even though it was kind of cute, and started reading Fiction "grown-up" books. I read a ton of Jane Austen, which I'm really glad about now because she's an awesome author but I'm not as interested in that era of writing anymore. I also read books about animals, and growing tomatoes, and Gone with the Wind.
Then I stopped reading. And then last semester I started reading again, starting with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I read Lolita (both REALLY GOOD), and read half of Madame Bovary (boring--overly long), etc, etc, etc.

your history of literacy coresponds to how mature you've grown as a person and in your tastes in literature very interesting.
ReplyDeleteP.S.- a friendly note: it's Dr.Seuss :>
Gone With the Wind!! Love, love, love Katie Scarlett (what a character...ha!) I would also like to agree with Mary's comment, above--Emma you are clearly not the girl next door... :-)
